Self-Awareness and Identity (Elementary Students)

Updated: Oct 3

Understanding ourselves - our preferences, strengths, areas for improvement, values, and beliefs - is crucial for our personal well-being and how we interact with others. Adults can assist children in nurturing this essential social-emotional skill by discussing our strengths, values, and areas for growth with them. After this dialogue, we can encourage children to express what they believe sets them apart. This can be as straightforward as inviting children to share the three words that best describe themselves or words they feel a good friend would use to describe them.
